Event Details
April is National Citizen Science Month, and to celebrate, we’re calling on you to be a citizen scientist superhero!
After a long winter indoors, many of us are eager to be outside and quick to notice every new leaf, returning bird, and busy bug. Sightings like these can be scientific data which benefit research and impact policy decisions locally, nationally, and globally. After all, science needs more eyes, ears, and perspectives than any single person can provide. When nonscientists—that is, people of all ages and backgrounds, just like us—report their observations on topics they care about, it’s called citizen science.
NVPL is 1 of 700 libraries around the world within the Citizen & Community Science Library Network. We offer special resources, kits you can check-out, and programs for children and adults that allow you to participate in citizen science projects. Go to scistarter.org/librarylocations to spot North Valley Public Library on a global scale! From birding to native plants, butterflies to bats, night skies to video games and more, there are opportunities to contribute to real science no matter what you’re interested in.
Swing by the Library to see how you and your family can be part of One Million Acts of Science this month. As a bonus: adult citizen scientist superheroes can pick up a game card and be entered to win a prize!
