You officially have permission to slow down, stay home, and be cozy. Let’s take a cue from nature, which goes dormant this time of year, and inspiration from cultures elsewhere that traditionally embrace the home and hearth in the winter. In German, this winter mindset is called gemütlichkeit, meaning a state of coziness, good cheer, and peace of mind; in Norwegian it’s koselig; in Italian it’s comodità. But perhaps the word you’ve heard most often is hygge.
Danish hygge (pronounced who-guh) embodies the joy of simply being, enjoying small and simple luxuries, hand-making, sharing, and being content. By the end of this program, you will:
- View the winter months from a different perspective
- Hopefully be inspired to embrace hygge in your own way
- Receive plenty of recipes, craft instructions, and other resources
This is a virtual program to join from home via Zoom, but participants are welcome to attend in-person at the Library if preferred.
