Phil Ramsey earned his Ph.D. working in the Clark Fork Superfund site, developing methods to quantify damage caused by mines in the river’s headwaters. The presentation will cover these topics:
1) Ways that hard rock mining affects ecosystems
2) Where and how rare earth element mines operate in China and the US
3) the radioactive metal thorium and mineral actinolite present in the Sheep Creek ores.
Discussion following the presentation will focus questions for USCM about their proposed mining operation. Zoom option available.
