Program Description

Event Details

Artist and architect Meghan Hanson has some of the most beautiful sketchbooks on earth, and during this adult craft night, you will learn some of her favorite tips and techniques as you begin your own creative art journal. An art journal is a sketchbook in which you express yourself while practicing sketching, collage, and other forms of art.

Plan to leave this craft program inspired by Meghan's travel journals, excited to practice the creative skills she teaches you, and proud of the start to your own sketchbook.

No prior art experience necessary; materials provided.

About the Artist

Meghan Hanson is an artist and architect creating within the intermountain west, sharing time between the Bitterroot Valley of Montana & Teton Valley Idaho. After attending Stevensville Highschool and college in Bozeman she moved to the Teton Valleys of both Wyoming and Idaho to work as an architect. In 2008 she started Natural Dwellings Architecture to design custom residential homes with a focus on energy efficiency, sense of place, and building science. Simultaneously Meghan and her sister Kathleen started Hanson Illustration and have worked with a wide variety of clients. from the Forest Service to private developers, in creating hand-drawn/painted images.

Meghan has traveled extensively, always with a journal, and has illustrated several local and international trips. In 2013 she moved back home where she lives with her partner Mike in a net-zero energy home (she designed) on property conserved by the Bitterroot Land Trust.

In 2022, Meg and Mike took 3 months to run across the United States and Meg documented the trip through her sketchbook. Other journal illustrations include China, Iceland, Bali, Europe, India and the Camino de Santiago, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Tetons and many others. Meg has a passion for creating art. Most often this is through painting, but she is also an avid knitter & sewer and has dabbled in everything from jewelry making to basket weaving. She believes that taking time to experience a place through creating art helps her to know the place, as well as document it in a unique way to remember and share with others.
